NWCC Tan FAQ

You should make your reservation for the time you can make it there. I personally like to get mine done early so I can relax for the night.

You should start shaving at least 3 weeks out from your show. Waxing: As I am not a waxing professional, please confirm with your waxing professional! I would suggest getting your waxing done at least three days prior to your tanning session. This is just a suggestion.

The morning of your session would be fine, as long as you have shaved the area for a while prior to this shaving.

It depends on your class. If you are a Men's Physique, you can wear undergarments with the tops rolled down under where your trunks would be. All other classes should tan with nothing on. This eliminates the potential for untanned areas showing.

For most folks, the time ranges from 20 - 30 minutes from the moment you step into the room to when you step out.

We may have male and female airbrush artists in the room. You are guided into your tanning tent, and the potential for being seen is slight.
Sometimes we also have expiditers in the room, they may test you for dryness. They will come up beside your tent and let you know their intent. If you do not want them to test you, please speak up and let them know.

The color depth varies between classes. Men's Physique and Bikini groups are lighter, but all competitors are dark enough to avoid being washed out on stage.

No. Stop using deodorant a few days before your session. This ensures no residues affect your tan. There is a new product Underarm Odor Defender®, you could try this. If you use NWCCTAN at checkout, you can get 10% off your entire purchase.

You should not shower until after the show unless instructed otherwise. Showering prematurely will require another full payment!

Wear loose-fitting clothing without tight elastic banding.

Skin preparation is a vital step. Follow instructions such as exfoliating, moisturizing, and removing body hair as recommended for optimal results. Follow the below skin preparation instructions.
1 week before your tanning appointment or first application, begin exfoliating the skin using Get Buffed®. Be sure not to be too abrasive in the process of exfoliation to avoid damaging the skin. Evenly exfoliate the body and include commonly missed areas like the back, feet and neck.
You may utilize a moisturizer for dry skin; however, stop the use of lotions 24 hours before tanning with 1 final exfoliation of the body before your tanning appointment.
For body hair removal, we recommend using Hair Away®, a gentle, cream hair remover that is effective on rice grain length hair. After use, exfoliate well.
If you choose professional wax, it is recommended to patch test an area of the body with your hair removal professional to guarantee the best results. Waxing should be completed at least 5 days before the contest to ensure you have removed all potential remnants of the wax product. Failure to do so can result in uneven color development.
If shaving, complete this no later than 12 hours before the first tanning appointment and finish with an exfoliation session to remove remnants of any conditioning, cream, or oil-based shaving products.
Once the tanning process has begun, no further exfoliation or hair removal methods can be completed. Do not use deodorant, perfume, lotions, or other skin topicals when attending your tanning appointment.
